WHO IS MİDWİFE?

International Confederation of Midwives (ICM): “A midwife is a responsible and reliable professional who provides the support, care and counseling needed by the woman in cooperation with the woman during pregnancy, birth and postpartum period, delivers the baby under her own responsibility, and cares for the newborn and the baby”. In addition, midwife is a lifelong health counselor and educator for women, family and society. According to this definition, midwifery care includes preventive measures, promotion of normal birth, screening and prevention of risks to mother and child, ensuring access to medical care or other appropriate assistance, and intervention in emergencies.

Ministry of Health: A midwife; is a professional who carries out maternal and child health services, provides pregnancy, childbirth and postnatal period services, gives birth, monitors and vaccinates children aged 0-6 years, provides health education to individuals, families and society on family planning, personal hygiene rules, first aid, protection from infectious and social diseases and war, sets an example with humanitarian and moral behavior, and graduates from a school registered by the Ministry.

HOW TO BECOME A MIDWIFE?

People who want to choose the midwifery profession and fulfill this profession in the future have been graduating from 4-year midwifery undergraduate departments of universities in our country since 1997. In our country, Faculties of Health Sciences and Health Schools train students in the field of midwifery. Graduated midwives can work in
